Packing is an art. It takes endless creativity and a lot of practice.

There is no one in the fashion industry that knows travel better than Louis Vuitton himself. In 1835, at the age of 14, he left Anchay- a small settlement in eastern France — and traveled to Paris on foot. The journey took him two years!

He began his career as a box-maker – a highly-respected craft as various boxes and trunks were used for packing and carrying clothing and various everyday objects. He quickly became an expert, as Smart Packing was his expertise, making traveling more stylish and functional with his innovative ideas. His designs were functional, hard-wearing and lightweight.

In 1875 he designed the first vertical travel-wardrobe, featuring two compartments for better storage, leading to a huge success and great demand for such trunks. His workshop specialized in travel and packing. The “Volez, Voguez, Voyagez” exhibition in Paris showcases the refined luxury and excellence which has been the tradermak of the house over the centuries – of course I’ve visited the exhibition and I’ve written all about it.

Now back to modern times, Louis Vuitton used all these years of expertise to help the 21st century fashion aficionado travel comfortably with some tips from the LV art of packing. I use all the tips mentioned in LV’s visual guide (those and many more) so that I can make the most of my trips with comfort and luxury.
